I want to get admission as a 3rd yr student in the McIntyre School of Commerce, UVA or Wharton. Please advise.

I am a Student at a community college and I want to succesffully transfer to one of four schools for the undergrad business program for Fall 2008 admission:

McIntyre School of Commerce at UVA

Wharton School of Business at UPENN

Haas Business School at UCLA Berkley

University of Michgan at Ann Arbor

I am a different kind of student who did not go to school beyond the 4th grade, currently have a GPA of 4.0 / 4.0, Member of Phi Theta Kappa, and lots of work experience. I am 25 years old.

I would like some advice on how I can be the most competitive for sdmiddion st these top schools when I am competing with Valedictorians and the cream of the crop across the nation.

I would be grateful for all advice, especially from someone who is/was on the admission committee, current/former students, and anyone else.

This means alot for me and I have sacrificed everything to concentrate on this while working a full time job and taking 16-19 credits per semester.

Thank you

You have a very outstanding transcript! I am currently an undergraduate at UVA in charlottesville (a declared science major), however, I have many friends who are trying to get into the comm school. I’m not going to lie–it is very competitive but from what I’ve heard (from students enrolled in McIntyre) they said to mainly keep your GPA above a 3.8 and you definitely don’t have that problem 🙂

One piece of advice I have is if there is an area of application where you have to right about yourself, find something that makes you stand out from the rest….for an example….you’ve had this dream for a long time to do (bla bla) with a Comm degree…and you would not let life’s challenges (did not go to school beyond 4th grade, etc) stop you from pursuing your dream of entering the nations top colleges in COmmerce/Business, etc.

Hope this helps and good luck on your journey!

I graduated from UVA (no longer McIntyre, nonetheless) in 1998. the only element you’ve on your want over the “Valedictorians and cream of the crop” is your existence adventure. UVA is attracted to attracting distinct scholars–no longer only ethnic or racial range, yet also range in words of economic heritage and existence adventure. i imagine that the actual incontrovertible truth that you’re a nontraditional student actual makes you an rather aggressive applicant. Play your unique situation up once you write your admissions essay to provide the admissions committee a concept of who you’re and the type of student you’d be. Your paintings historic previous is totally a plus, and in case you’re a first-era college student, this may also strengthen your probabilities of gaining admision. Your means to over come adversity and the actual incontrovertible truth that you’re thriving in spite of your (former) lack of a suitable training is info of your community intelligence, committment to fulfillment and problem-fixing means. you’ll little doubt be an asset to the college community, and with slightly of success the admissions committee would word of this. only to grant you some wish, I actual have a sturdy pal who dropped out of highschool, later attained a GED and earned an associate’s degree from Northern Virginia community college. She replaced into admitted to UVA at 26 and went on to earn a MSW. best of success and congratulations on all of your achievements.

You should be fine. It’s always a lottery when it comes to admissions but what you have should be good enough.
