If you are under 18, you file in family court for a legal termination of your parents’ parental rights. If you are over 18 and under 24, there is absolutely nothing you can do to change the classification on FAFSA. It was that way eighteen years ago when I started college and rules still have not changed! The school might help you get around the rules to still get the money to finish your degree but otherwise it doesn’t matter if you live 2500 miles away from your parents.
