I think writing about athletic experiences is common… if you want to stand out from the rest perhaps you should write about something that gave you “the most satisfaction” that most high school students your age have never done, would have never done, or didn’t think to do. You want to show depth and diversity of interests. They can look at your application and see that you run track but they should be able to look at your essay and see that you’re more than grades and athletics. Anything in the community? household? travels? and out of ordinary experience that not only gave you satisfaction but it was pretty unexpected.

Sure, I think that’s a good topic, but also try and mix in other points in your essay about how just the way you persevere in track, you can do anything you put your mind too, but keep the focus on the track experience. You should also mention the steps you took for getting to where you were, how hard you worked, and how it has benefitted you in the end. Talk about how learning discipline in track has helped you learn more about life and how in that way, you can apply it to college life. And of course, don’t forget to talk about how track has given you the most satisfaction and follow up with examples of why (like those I mentioned above). Good luck!
