First, you need good grade so when you apply, UCLA will admit you. If your grade are really good, then UCLA may give you scholarship. Else, if you are good in sport, they may offer you scholarship too. If you cannot get the scholarship, then you may have to find a part-time job while you go to school.

Besides the scholarships mentioned in answers before me, you can apply for many federal loans and grants. There are a lot of grants (which is like a scholarship-you don’t have to pay this money back) which are only for families with a low income. Most federal money for college is geared toward families with low income, so that could actually work in your favor. Keep in mind with a school that far away, you’ll probably want to fly there, and plane tickets there and back can get expensive. Also, to help with back-up colleges, what made you choose UCLA? Is it a certain major? Did a sports team draw you in? If it’s something like that, then find a school with similar aspects. Are you just going for the prestige of going there? While, yes, it is a great name, you will still get a good education at any college. Also keep in mind that tuition doubles for out of state students and that room/board probably isn’t gonna be cheap there. If you want to go there, then it’s achievable, just make sure you keep up your grades, and some extra curriculars. During your senior year of high school, look into federal money asap, because it’s first come first serve.

On a different note, I’m from Alabama myself, and if you choose to stay in state for lower tuition, there are several great schools here. If you’re into football, you have Alabama/Auburn. If you like science, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and University of South Alabama (USA) both have medical schools for after college, and great science programs for college. If you’re interested in the education field or just a basic degree so that you can transfer later to a graduate school, Troy University is a good school. Another plus for Troy is that they have a campus in Dothan, Montgomery, and of course Troy. It’s also a reasonable school cost-wise, so it makes for a good back-up. Finally, they have an excellent marching band if that’s what interests you.

If you’re still set on UCLA, but for some reason can’t get in, consider going to a school in AL for a couple of years to get your basics, and then transfer to UCLA. That way you’d only pay for out of state tuition for 2 instead of all 4 years. You sound motivated, and I hope it works out for you!!

Get good grades and you may be able to get scholarships, and you can get loans and a job etc. It’s great that you have these goals and it’s definitely possible for you. Don’t just apply to UCLA though, apply to a bunch of good schools so you have a backup plan in case you don’t get in at your first choice. Good luck!

there is a way, but you need a back-door plan. UCLA is one of the most competitive schools in the entire nation and you are at a major disadvantage that you are not from cali. unless you are spectacular, you will not get in from out of state. but, there is a way. if you can move to cali for junior college and do well there you have an excellent chance of transferring into UCLA. going to JC in alabama is not going to help you at all because you will not be a cali resident. if you and your family can swing it, try and move out here for JC. Santa Monica City College is very very good at getting people into UCLA, but any cali JC will do if you get good grades. good luck, great school choice

You have to be a genius to get in the state universities of california system. Good luck. I heard on the news they even reject 4.0 students who dont have good extracurricular activities.
