People have all sorts of reasons for starting rumors like this one. Some people are just deranged (Cho said the same thing about VT–yet anyone in Virginia knows that Virginia Tech actually has the reputation of being the opposite), some have some sort of axe to grind against the school, and some just met the wrong students.

That said, most noteworthy schools have a large percentage of upper middle to upper class students. My school sure does . . . I’m not sure if I’ve met a student born into a lower-middle or middle-middle class family. But, the students at my school are some of the friendliest and most helpful people you’ll ever meet. Does my school and the university in general have the reputation of being full of “stuck up rich folks?” Absolutely.
