I have a degree in English…?

Is there any way to take a few more courses somewhere else, transfer over all my credits, and come out with a degree in ‘General Studies’? I don’t like having my English degree, since I didn’t care much for the subject.

It is possible to pick up a second bachelors degree if you take an extra 30 credits or so, but think carefully before you go that route.

“General Studies” at most schools is a special degree for people who didn’t focus their studies in one area (but need to graduate.) Some people really look down on it.

You’ll always have the English degree; a second degree doesn’t erase the first degree.

If you already have your English degree, it will always be yours and you can continue on to a second degree. If you haven’t graduated yet, you can switch your major to Liberal Arts or General Studies with some adjustments to your course work.

While some academics look down on a Liberal Studies degree, if you are planning to go into Corporate America, many companies are scooping up these graduates because they are not over-specialized, and can be more easily trained to that company’s specifications.

It would be better to be happy in your course of study, than to try and fit yourself into someone else’s view of what you “should” do.

Personally, I think that “english” on your diploma looks better than “general studies”, I don’t even know if they make a degree for that. Regardless, I’m not sure if you can once you’ve graduated. You’ll want to check with the admissions office of a nearby school.

That really depends on the school. Talk to an academic counselor.

Instead of English, my degree is in American Literature and Culture!

shouldn’t you already know how the college system works, if you’ve been through it ???
