I am a high school student who got a B in a community college course…?

I am currently a high school senior, but I took 2 calculus classes at a community college this summer, because I didn’t have enough room in my schedule next year to take math. I received a B in both those classes, and I think that looks pretty bad if I send in that transcript when applying to college. I’m aiming for UC Berkeley.

But I just found out that I can drop one class next year, so I can make room for math. Should I retake math (and do AP Calculus BC) during the school year, or send in my community college transcript with the 2 B’s and take a different class next year such as IB Business?

Go ahead and send in your transcripts and take a different course. A “B” in Calc is nothing to sneeze at.

I found my upper level courses a lot easier but it was probably because they were more focused, actually what I wanted to study, and I had developed good study habits by then. The core undergraduate courses are really tough as they’re full of information for ALL streams that use those core courses. Just personally, I think the most difficult undergrad curriculums are in Engineering, Law, Medicine (vet or human) or History….but this is just me. I’m a geneticist and found the maths and genetics undergrad courses really easy. Honestly don’t know much about the arts / history departments so I can’t contribute to difficulty levels there.

I personally think a B in college level calculus while your still in high school should look pretty good. There are plenty of people who can’t get a B in it when they ARE in college.

B is a good great if you incoming freshman. It is outstanding considering it was your first college course and you were in high school at the time. You would be ahead if you could get rid of your pre- reqs.

It is really only if your overall GPA is lower than what they want or close to the lower limit that they look at what you got in each individual class. Don’t worry about the B.
