does applying for Financial Aid when applying to College hurt your chance at admission??

I have been told that when applying to college that it is not wise to apply for financial aid in your application, is it true that Universities will take this into consideration when determining your acceptance or not?

No. Most of the funding that universities and colleges have come from Financial Aid. So don’t be afraid to get whatever you need to get to get an education.

No. The FAFSA is meant to be sent out to multiple colleges if you have not decided on just one. The aid you would get does not come from the school, it comes from the government to the school, then you. So it’s like anyone else who is paying their tuition. Also, just applying for financial aid does not mean you’ll get it. Universities encourage you all the time to fill out the FAFSA, so I just do not think it would be a negative attribute to your application.

Some colleges even boast of the percentage of students it has on financial aid to make it a more prospective option to those who know they will need financial aid to afford school.

NO, i dont know where you heard that. But apply for financial aid school is expensive. You have a higher chance of getting accepted to a University if you complete your general education at a Community College. Reason being the University knows your already sure of your major and you go straight to taking classes to get your degree in that major.

Not at all

1. When applying, you usually apply to more than one college anyway (ie first three choices), and colleges know this

2. All students are strongly encouraged to fill out a FAFSA no later than Senior year, and colleges know this as well. It doesn’t mean that you’ll apply for financial aid, just that you’re ready if you do.

3. A college’s money comes from tuition, fees, etc they don’t care where it comes from.

P.S. Start financial aid planning EARLY I started my oldest son’s during his Junior year!

In some colleges applying for financial aid does influence the admission process. Colleges that have their admission process set on a need-blind basis will not take into account that you have applied for financial aid during the admission process.

I have never applied for financial aid when applying to a college, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to. I have always used financial aid in college. I don’t think it matters. Either way they will be paid and that’s what they really want out of students… money and lots of it.

It’s always a good idea to apply for financial aid, but it’s not going to cover most of the costs for out-of-state. Financial aid does not award more based on how expensive the school is that you choose to attend, but some schools do award need-based scholarships. It won’t hurt your chances.
