how many people think it is absolutely necessary to have a college degree these days?

I’m seriously considering not taking anymore classes..i’ve been going almost 4 years and am barely considered a sophmore because i’ve been forced to work full time since HS. I’m in the banking industry which is a good career already i’m just scared i’ll need it down the road…opinions?

get as much knowledge as possible about the banking industry. and keep it up you could end up with a better life than most of us. keep taking the classes it looks better on job apps. and it makes it easier to get a job with a degree. personally, too many people think its necessary to have a degree, which is garbage because it gets harder for the ones with vey little resources to provide for there families.

I’m almost certain you’ll need it down the road in banking if you ever want to go beyond your current job. If you were an auto mechanic or even a professional musician, I would say the degree is optional, but for you, it appears really necessary. You might increase the number of classes you take at a time to increase motivation – if you have been going 4 years and are only barely a sophomore, you must have been taking one class at a time. I got through law school working full time while taking 3-4 classes/semester (that was considered part-time).

I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary, but it is extremely useful.

I am a little concerned that you’re taking classes at such a slow rate and you’re still at 30-45 credits. I realize that it is unusual to work full time and go to school full time like I did, but if you don’t have any other major obligations (children, caring for a sick relative, etc.) you might be able to pick up more classes if you rearrange your schedule a bit or choose a different school.

You will eventually hit a ceiling in banking where a bachelors, then an MBA will be necessary.

Personally, I feel the more education the better these days. Now that doesnot necessarily, mean BA’s or MA’s or even PhD’s they maybe the norm. I work with students who are not academically, going to be able to work in white collared jobs so my outlook on going onto post secondary has changed over the years. I tell them to strive for the best you can achieve and find something that you are passionate about .

However; I think that you should ask the bank if they have any in-service programs that could get you your degree.

The fact isyou are working for them already, you are trained at what you do and you are telling them I want to work in the banking industry and want to learn more.

Hope that starts your mind going

If you want to stay a teller all your life, then go ahead and stop taking classes. But, if you want to move up in banking at all, you will need some sort of college education.

You’re not the only one who has had to work full time and juggle school. My sister did it for 6 years to get her Bachelor’s degree…and has been lucky enough to land a job that pays $25 an hour in a non-medical field.

Perseverance is the key. You have to struggle a little in order to get ahead…unless you are super rich, or have parents that are…but even then you will have your struggles.

I am in the same boat. i did about 2 1/3 years of college and dont have an assosiates. I have had a kid and i own a house so i have to work full time. I am in the banking industry as well and every semester is say i am going to finish my school. If you want to easily double your income you will finish school. That is what i want to do for me and my family.

college is a money funneling scam. all the tools are out there to educate yourself. specific job training is different. in a bad economy p.h.d. means street sweeper look at former ussr

i think it is less important than it once was. even if you need it in the future, you can always return for part-time study, and be accredited with the courses you have taken….
