How important is my foriegn language class in order to get into UCLA or berkeley?

I just started sophomore year and I’m taking Latin 3-4. I now realize that the language is totally not for me, and I srewed up badly when I decided to take it. If i take it and pass this year, should I take another year? Or would it be okay to take another language, or will my entire chances be thrown in the pit?

Modestly important. They like to see 1-2 years of foreign language but it isn’t always manditory.

UCLA is all approximately extracurriculars. i think Berkeley is finding for a greater rounded pupil. BTW…Berkeley’s acceptance value this 12 months is 22%. So it went down one % from final 12 months. The UC device is so tousled. i recognize this woman who has a three.2 GPA and did no longer take any AP training, yet she have been given standard to Berkeley. that’s like a lottery exceptionally much.

Subject Requirement (“A-G” Coursework)

E. Language Other than English – 2 years required, 3 years recommended

Two years of the same language other than English. Courses should emphasize speaking and understanding, and include instruction in grammar, vocabulary, reading, composition and culture. Courses in languages other than English taken in the seventh and eighth grades may be used to fulfill part of this requirement if your high school accepts them as equivalent to its own courses.

As part of the UC Subject Requirement, you need to take, at a minimum, two years of the same foreign language. If you have done two years of Latin, you can stop after this year or take one more year of a different language (3 years are recommended, but you can take a different language for the third year). If you only have one year of Latin, you can just take two years of another language.

I was accepted to berkeley last year and at my interview they told me it would have been benificial if I had taken 4 years of spanish rather than three but since I was fluent it made up for it.So it definitley wont rule you out but maybe pick up another extracurricular or AP class to make up for it. GOOD LUCK!
