Planning a college career should have started early in high school during sophmore and junior year. If you are not already on the right track from the beginning (applying to colleges, SAT’s, ACT’s, college essays), perhaps you should try enrolling into a community college close to home. They can help you save money and some have good transfer programs that can guarantee a spot at a UC of your choice (of course you have to meet the minimum requirements like GPA and course requirements). If you are not sure what subjects you’re interested in, you can always finish your general education at community college until your mind is made up. Schedule a meeting with a school counselor to review your options and plan your future. Good luck because life doesn’t get any easier.

After high school your choices are basically:

1. work

2. join the military

3. go to college

4. be independently wealthy (if you last name isn’t Hilton or Gates, odds are that isn’t an option).

5. be a bum

So you need to decide what kind of lifestyle you want to live. Then set a plan in motion that will enable you to achieve those lifestyle goals. If your really lucky, your passionate about something (i.e. music or computers or ?) that will make the career decision easier.

Start with a school counselor.

You need to do a lot before the end of high school. Maybe you should begin by speaking to your guidance counselor at high school.

What are your interests? What subjects are you interested in? Do you have a career in mind?
