How do you pick between all the colleges?

I have no idea which college I want to go to, I feel as if I am being overwhelmed by hundreds of choices and I have no idea how to really start.

College is really about preparing yourself for the career ahead of you. You don’t need to know what you want to major in right now, but where you decide to go (and how you do) WILL have an impact on your first job. The only people who say it doesn’t matter if you go to a first or second tier school are the people who never went to a top school.

You will have fun no matter where you go. But you have to be serious about school – it shouldn’t be a social or economic decision. My suggestion is to group all the top tier school together, THEN look at location, distance from home, etc. But go to the most prestigious school you get in to.

One good way to start picking colleges is to first attend the local community college for two years and get a two year associates degree. This will give you time to get used to college and you duirng those two years may decide what exactly you want to study.

I have personally heard over the past 15 years of high school graduate students who first went to the local community college because if you do well then almost all of your credits can be transferred to a four year senior college and you can apply to the college of your choice based on your two year GPA (Grade Point Average) from the community college.

Another very good reason of going to the community college for two years first is that the tuition is much much cheaper for the first two years than going to a senior college where each year’s tuition can be more than 10,000.00 per yearor in some case per semester.

If you do this then the overall cost of attending college will be much less and you will not owe as much after f years of study as many students who go to the senior college right away for four years and then have student loans as high as maybe $60,000.00 to have to pay back. years ago that would be the amount of what a mortgage for a house would be.

I hope that this will give you some idea of which way to start out in choosing a college.

Good luck and may you have much success in your college studies.

Also if you decide not to go to the community college you should choose a senior college based on may other decisions such as distance form your house. Will you stay in teh dormitory. How often will you come back to visit your family during the school year (Thanksgivng? Christmas? Spring Break? etc. Will you have to fly there or drive or take a bus?

You should also decide if you want to attend a large college which can be very impersonal with classes of 100 or more of students in an assembly hall or do you want something smaller and more personal like smaller classes and a more personal relationships with fellow students and professors.

As I said before I hope that these questions will help make your decision easier.

I would go to a Community college to get an Associates in Business first. By the time you finish 2 years, you may have a better feel what you want to be when you grow up. The choice can be overwhelming. Consider if you want to commute, or stay close to home, or live on campus. Some feel you only get the true College experience by living in the dorms…

First of all:

1. Do you want to be close or far from your home?

2. What is your major? Bioscience, sociology, liberal arts, etc. (What career do you want to go into-if you don’t know, take a college counseling class, also don’t worry about not having a major because research says that almost 60% of college students always change their major- in other words, you will find what you best like once in college) After you have chosen a major, find out which colleges offer you major, and which one has the best program for it.

3. Private or Public college?

4. Surburban or rural setting? Near a beach, or in a big city, or out near the forest, etc?

5. Check your grades to see if you are able to apply. Take in account that money nowadays is not a problem: there is financial aid, scholarships, etc.

For scholarships, check: fastweb.com

Also collegeboard.com (Click on- College Matchmaker) is a excellent website for finding colleges, It helped me find my top Three!

GOOD LUCK!!

First decide what you want to major in and if so would you be satisfied with a BA/BSc or do you want to go to Master’s degree also. Then cross out all the colleges which don’t allow you to fulfil your wishes or don’t fit your image of a good school based on their national rating, student activities, fraternities & sorarities, extra curricular fame etc.

Now send out letters or e-mails to the reduced list. You may also access their web site and learn about their requirements for admission ( for ex: your GPA), and how difficult or easy it is to qualify for the financial assistance or scholarship. Now you really narrowed down your list, haven’t you?

Patience and persitence pays off. It’s very important that you suffer a lot now and do all the detailed homework now than, choose a college in haste and suffer later and sometimes for the rest of your life. Your deligence and hard work in choosing a good college will benefit you in the long run for the rest of your life. Good Luck.

I was having the same problem up until about a week ago, when I went to an Open House at one of the colleges of my interest and took a campus tour and found out a good deal of information about the courses I’d be taking and such. Tho I’m still interested in this particular college it did fall to the bottom of my list, so my suggestion is to start with the ones closest to you and go to their open houses, it Really Does Help you with your decision. Most colleges offer open houses and post these dates on their websites, other colleges don’t seem to have open houses and you have to call and make an appointment to take a tour and talk with someone.

First you need to decide how far away from homeyou want to go then. Either narrow it down by finding colleges with your major or if you do not yet know what you want to major in find some schools with a wide range of fields you are interested you might even look for one with a general major. them look at those schools you have chosen. Go to websites and visit the schools. this is a good website if you haven’t already tried it then do www.fastweb.com

Do not be confused. God is not the author of confusion. Go to the college of your choice. You already know in your heart but probably afraid to admit it to your loved ones. Do what is pleasing to God and do what makes you happy. The choice is very simple.

The answer is very simple, it is either black or white; chicken or fish; get it! Stop trying to philosophiiii everything. Life is too precious for stress. Life is to be enjoyed and you are definitely too young to be worried like that

Remember the words of Jesus; Peace be with you.

Be Blessed and enjoy the years to come.
