How do I stop stressing about school?

I’m a junior in college now but the courses are getting harder and harder and everyday. I’m stressed out because I really need to do great this year and I can’t seem to get myself together. I don’t know what to do. The course loads are unbelievable…. I don’t want to give up because school is all I have…I don’t know what to do anymore

I just recently graduated, and I can definitely relate. My senior year I took a ton of credits, worked 50 hours a week, and all I wanted to do was quit everything and crawl back in bed for a few weeks.I came up with a solution that worked for me, maybe you could consider it.

When I got really really stressed I would get into this mode where I would set realistic goals for myself (i.e. read 75 pages for Course XY 302 tonight) and then reward myself when I was done. Sometimes I rewarded myself by taking a study break to go have a drink with friends. Sometimes it was something really simple like doing more homework on one day so I wouldn’t have time to do something fun the next day.

It sounds like you’re so stressed out that you’re not allowing yourself to have any fun. By using better time management you can reward yourself more often. If you continue to bog yourself down without doing something to release a little tension, you will only make yourself more unhappy. I’ve never met anyone that didn’t stress about school. It is only natural that deadlines, midterms, etc etc will freak you out at least a little. The thing that matters most is whether or not you can learn to deal with it.

DON’T GIVE UP!!!

Take a step back. Put things into perspective. I would say take a nap, wake up refreshed and approach school with a different attitude. Not only are you in college to make the grade, but you are also there to find yourself. It may seem like school is all you have, but college is really all you need to have a good time and to get a good education. Don’t look at college as a negative. Classes get rough, so it’s actually critical at this point to make sure you take time to have fun in between classes and midterms. This way, you don’t feel like college is a single-note, monotonous experience.
