How do I have a social life as a commuter college student?
I’m going to a school (Bridgewater State College) where about half of the school resides on campus and the other half either commutes or lives off-campus. How do I keep a college social life when I don’t live in the halls and have to go home at the end of the day?

I commuted also. I had very close friends at the campground my family and I camped at every summer and the surrounding town. It was like my second home, so I didn’t need to make friends in college. However, a good way to do it is to make friends with girls/guys in your classes when you are doing assignments together. In nearly every class I had, the professor would pair us into groups and that’s how I got to know people. Eventually you can get phone numbers and be invited to parties and stuff.

Make friends and keep in contact with classmates you like. I’m also a commuter student. In fact, I just moved to a new city and am going to a new school. I still keep in contact with old friends. You can too. Make friends with some of the fellow commuters, as all of you will have the same freedom to go where you please to hang out. I understand that some campuses have dorm curfews, so as a commuter, you won’t have to worry about that. Good luck.

Join clubs and organizations. Sign up for an intramural team or get a job/internship on campus.
If you’re Greek-inclined, join a sorority/fraternity (not all members live in the house).

you can actually be quite popular. my friends live in dorms on campus with no car. so they find it really fun for me to drive them off campus, show them around the city and take them to malls or stores too far from the buses near the campus.
in exchange, they let me come often to their dorm to eat (kinda like a second home) and nap if it is going to be a long day, they know about all the festivals and events going on at campus, so i can eat dinner in their dorm, go out at night, then go home later.
