How do I go to school full time?

Seems like a simple question right? Its not. I really would love to just quit my job and go to school full time, though I have a car note, rent and other misc bills. How can I do this? is it even possible? My credit aint so good to just depend on a loan, I doubt they would even give me one.

If you have a lot of debt, it may not be possible for you to quit your job and go to school full-time. If that’s the case, go to school anyway, but part-time, at night or when you’re not working. It’ll be worth it, and you can get financial aid to pay for your part-time classes, so long as you take above a certain number of credits per year.

I’d recommend that you look at your local community college. It may not even be too late to start for this term – some schools don’t start until this week. If it is late, you can arrange things so you can start next semester.

Community colleges tend to be a lot cheaper than either “trade schools” or four year, bachelor’s-degree granting schools. They can be a great starting place.

How about starting at a community college and transferring to a four-year university later? It’s much cheaper that way and they tend to offer lots of evening classes. Regarding the money, you can apply for federal financial aid. Their loans have nothing to do with your credit rating so you don’t have to worry about that. They do have limits on the amount of loans a student can take out though, based on what year they’re in – less for freshman, more for seniors. You might still have to work part-time to cover the rest of your living expenses or take out an additional loan as a private loan (the interest rates can be very high though and many of them are credit-based). Talk to a financial aid counselor at a community college or university you’re considering so that you can see what the options available to you are. Good luck and don’t give up on going back to school. I know it’s really hard to do but it’s worth it.

Some schools, probably just junior colleges, will give credit for working at a job in your major field. I collected VA benefits for going full time by getting units for my full time job and taking a few easy elective classes along with the major class. For me the class was just a review since I was already working in the field.

Honestly we are in identical boats! I am enrolling in Texas Tech University, they have a correspondence Bachelor Degree program..its General Studies but there is no math..not my strong subject so its great for me..I am not sure how this will work out but its the only option I see for now. Just avoid the schoools like Univ of Phoenix, Kaplan Univ etc. Employers wont take you seriously with a degree from one of these places. Good Luck!
