How do I build references in such a big university?
I am a 1st year student and I notice everyone is very anonymous here. Everyone is doing their own thing. Some teachers don’t even know your name even after weeks of classes. Most of all, they couldn’t care less if you do good or bad in their course.
Yet you need references for summer co-ops. If teachers don’t care much, how do you build those references?

Most teachers have office hours for kids that need extra help. Pick a class you like but could use a bit of guidance in, and go see the teacher every couple of weeks. Build a relationship!
Also, as you get higher up (3rd year, for instance) the classes will become smaller and you will get to know your teachers better and vice versa.
