If you can’t control your study time/habits now, how do you ever hope to succeed in college? Apply some self-discipline for crying out loud!…..Ok, the hard-to-chew (but necessary!!) part of my answer is over. You can relax now.

It sounds to me like you need a tangible goal to work towards. Having such a goal often helped me focus when I was studying. Ask yourself the following questions:

1) Which college entrance exam am I planning on taking (e.g. ACT or SAT)?

2) What score would I need to get on the exam in order to get into the school(s) I want to attend considering my current GPA? What score would I need to earn a scholarship (i.e. many schools offer no-questions-asked scholarships based off your exam score and your GPA)?

3) What score am I currently getting on practice tests? Which areas are my strengths? Which areas are my weaknesses? You need to know these things so that you know where you should focus your study time.

After you ask yourself those questions, then fill in the blanks on the following sentence: “I want to get a score of _____ by the date of _____.” Chart your study habits/time, and take regular practice exams to measure your progress.

If you still find that the internet is too much of a temptation, then you need to “unplug” for your studying. Remember that people actually used books to study before the internet ever existed, and it still is the best way to study in my opinion. Get yourself an exam preparation book and find a quiet place where distractions are at a minimum.

Writing on a clean slate only could attract one’s attention, so also a free mind gets things etched on it.

For example : Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a human bomb at Sriperumpudur near Chennai.

Here the action word is “killed”Forget other things.

Ask Who killed ….? The answer is : A human bomb.

Ask where ? The answer is at Sriperumpudur.
