How bad is it to have a “W” on a transcript while planning to transfer?

I want to drop my English 1A course (prerequisite) because it’s very inconveniant for me and I don’t have a lot of time for it to do essays and such. I was going to retake it next semester at a better time, and I plan on transfering. This is my first year of college at a community college in California. My major was going to be International Affairs, but I might change it to Law.

Thanks!!!

You should talk to someone from the transfer center because you may want to sign a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) to a UC. Basically you need a 2.8 GPA in 60 transferable units of classes that are specified in the agreement and I don’t think there is a limit to how many W’s you can have, although your CC and/or financial aid may take actions if you don’t make a satisfactory progress. In fact, I think they let you even repeat a few classes and you can use the better grade for the GPA calculation. But in general, a few W’s are not a big deal. W’s are better than D’s or F’s anyday.

Since the TAG pretty much comes down to a numbers game, you should drop your class if your gut feeling tells you that you are not going to pass. Also TAG doesn’t symphatize with your personal situations such as having to wok a lot of hours. Therefore, I suggest you to take only enough classes that you can effectively handle. If you hurry through and receive poor grades, it’s your fault.

Also talk to financial aid. Some people are absolutely against going into debt but think of education as an investment. You shouldn’t constantly worry about money when you should be concentrating on school work.

The whole reason to go to a community college is so that you get excellent grades that you can transfer into a 4 year university with. Depending on where you live, transfers from community college to a 4-year can be competitive. Honestly, “inconvienience” is not a good excuse to drop a class. And not having enough time? That’s college! Besides, you are assuming you will have time next semester, but you never know what will come up.

Just put in the extra hours and suck it up. I don’t understand people who drop classes like that.

One “W” could no longer kill you. it relatively is relatively no longer a huge deal. in spite of the indisputable fact that, in case you get anymore, admissions will start to have their doubts approximately you and your college ability. yet, I could permit you know, maximum pupils additionally could paintings and pay lease. you do no longer opt to apply that as an excuse to no longer do the classwork. And believe me, an English 1A direction is in simple terms the begining, it is going to be incredibly uncomplicated. solid success with your circulate inspite of the indisputable fact that. Like I stated, one “W” shouldn’t impact your probabilities of having into.

I have to agree, just suck it up for a few weeks. You are already a good part of the way through it. Stick with it and then it’s over.
