HATE college already can’t stand it what to do?

It’s my second day here.. and my living situation is the nightmare I had imagined. I never wanted to come here in the first place. For what I’m wanting to get into (film/tv/digital media) this is definitely not the best route. I know i’m just wasting a whole bunch of money and 4 years out of my life. I cried myself to sleep last night .. while 2 feet away from a smelly roommate (i try not to criticize people, but he really does have an odor.) I want to do something else, I knew a 4 year conventional college wasn’t for me.. I’ve said that forever. WHAT SHOULD/COULD I DO. I wanna make a move ASAP while you can still drop classes and get money back. ANY ADVICE

Give it a few days. While college isn’t for everyone, in todays market you have a much better shot of making it if you have a degree. The beginning is hard on everyone; adjusting to a new place, making new friends, etc. Try to make the best of it and really try to like it, and maybe you’ll find that you really do. Making a snap decision so big as dropping out of college after only a day or two is a bad idea.

Im sure youve heard this before but dropping out right now is the worst thing you can do. Youll work the same 9-5 job for then next 20 years of your life. Besides that you just have to man-up and say I’m really sorry but college just isn’t for me and i think id be better off just getting a job. Im graduating this December after 6 1/2 years of going to college. (ya i was in the same boat you are). I would definitely suggest staying in and possibly changing your major to something that you actually enjoy. At least get a two year degree so when you do get tired of the job your going to start working you will be able to go back, get that 4 year degree and then start banking some serious cash. Good luck man, dont lose the opportunity.thats been given to you.

What did you think was the best route for you to enter the profession? In general, it is a university education, ideally from the best quality film program you can get into. But that’s not universally true.

With that said, if you know that a four year degree just isn’t for you right now, would you consider an associates instead? If you were to do this, I’d suggest that you actually get your AS in film at a school (ideally, a community college with a strong film program) in or near one of the major film/tv centers in N. America (if that’s where you are.): New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, or Vancouver, maybe Toronto, and Montreal if you’re interested in French-language productions, and maybe Chicago. At least, with you being in one of these areas, you can get a job as a production assistant, perhaps during an off-semester, which is often the entry-level job in the film industry.

For film, the best place for you to be really is Los Angeles. For TV: LA, NY or Vancouver or, in some cases, Orlando.

You have decisions to make now. What others said is true – it’s hard to judge a college experience after just two days. However, since you said that you never wanted to go to college in the first place… I’m torn. Normally, if you’d wanted college, I’d advise you to stick it out for a semester. But you didn’t, so I’m not sure that I would.

If you left school now, what are your plans?

You didn’t address the issue about if the school has the Film Tv and Digital courses you want to learn. If not, why, indeed, did you go there.

You do realize in filmwork you are often in smelly locations like Tunisia or the set is filled with chemical stage smoke. And you’re working a 14 hours day in close quaters with people.

I would give the school time first ask for a differant room. Its sounds as if you condemned this from the start. Give it a chance and get involved in things you like get another room. OR you may be able to drop classes get SOME money back and give up and be a failure at school your choice but remember this may become a pattern in your life.

lol I’m starting college in a few days and I’m freaking out too. I feel like I might hate it or something. But today’s society demands people with college degrees so just get the degree. Even if the entire experience sucks, at least you will get something beneficial out of it that will take a you a long way.

Go to student affairs and have your room changed. It might be souring your entire situation. Give it another week or two. Very rarely do people who drop ever go back.

I’m sorry your having problems. Is the real problem school, or living situation? Please don’t drop out if the problem is you room and not academic. Please, please, go to talk to student affairs or housing about a room switch. This might change your whole outlook. Can you request a private room if there are extra rooms?
