Getting into a good college.?

I do have good grades. But I am not in any clubs or sports. How important are clubs and sports to colleges? I am only a sophmore, but my brother just took the SAT’s and got me thinking about this. I am horrible at sports, but are there any clubs that i should join that colleges would find interestiong?

No you dont need to be an athlete. If you want, join clubs which peak your interests.

Make sure your GPA is solid and do well on the SAT’s and you’ll be ok. Dont stress about it… PLenty of time and there are thousands of colleges.

GPA and SATs/ACTs trump everything else in your application to college/university. Lots of “nerds” get into the best school without any interest in sports or clubs. If you’re marginal, then a diversity of interests will help – but you shouldn’t be marginal in the first place.

My recommendation is to seek out a high school that offers the IB (International Baccalaureate). This credential is recognized as special by many universities, and you can’t get the IB without some hours spent in extra-curricular activities.

Yes, you need to have NO MORE than 3 extracurriculars (I say no more than 3 because if you join too many, colleges will think you joined them just because it will ‘look good.’) It doesn’t need to be a club–you could do community service. That’s actually often more impressive.

I didn’t do much in the club area either, but i got into a really good college. Do well on the ACT and keep up the good grades! I was involved with theater and that’s about it.
