From a statistics standpoint, why is stating a pregnancy test is 99.98% accurate misleading?

You need to look up and read about Bayes’ Rule.

there are great examples about drug testing that show a good test really isn’t.

but because this is known, tests are designed now to correct for the errors.

Because it’s only 99.98% accurate during perfect use. Only a very small fraction of the people taking the pill will use it perfectly (perfectly being taking a pill every day at the same time).

i don’t find it misleading, but i haven’t had but one semester of statistics, it seems that it is very unlikely to be inaccurate, there is a .02% chance that the pregnancy test will be inaccurate.
