For those who went to college or are in college?

Do you prefer living at home or living at a dorm?

Please state why.

Thanks

I am in my second year of college and I have lived alone in my own apartment since I started. Personally, I am the type of person who is very social but I like to keep certain areas of my life separate. I dont want to live where I go to school and I do not like the idea of lving with another person or other people I dont know. However, I DID try dorm for a month to make sure i didnt like it. So I suggest you at least try it so you dont end up regretting later in life. So just know its really what youre comfortable doing and how you want to spend your college years(you can even try living at home the first year, a dorm the second, and your own apartment for the next two), but you can still have lots of friends and have fun in college without living on campus.

I didn’t have the option of living at home because I went to school out of state, but here are some reasons why I liked it:

1. Great way to meet people your own age

2. High likelihood that someone in your hall will be taking the same classes as you, so you have a built in study group and someone to take notes for you if you are sick.

3. Nice opportunity to have some freedom you might not have at home.

Also, it sounds like you have the option to do either, so if I were you I would try out the dorms and if you hate it you can move home. Plus, your parents are close enough that if you really just need a break or a home cooked meal, you can go get one.

It depends really.

Do you have transportation? you need it if you decide to live @ home and commute. Taking the bus is an option but if your not a bus person might as well stay in campus.

Living in campus can be beneficial you have everything at your reach. Yet, it depends what type of rommates you get some can be stressful. It all depends to what college ur going some let you decide who u want to dorm with others do not.

From my experience I prefer living at home, mom cooks for me, and I don’t have to pay to wash my clothes or go grocery shopping. Right now I’m taking the bus and is a total drag!!!! I got a car couple of weeks ago, I’m just waiting to get my DL.

Also, your class Schedule has an influence on deciding to dorm or living at home.

living in a dorm your first year is vital. its how you make friends, how you connect with your classmates, etc. A lot of people I knew lived on campus the first year even if they moved back home afterwards. your first year at school is like bootcamp, you will all be struggling with the same issues and in many cases the bond you establish during your first year of school is one that you will keep for the rest of your life. after the first year, then maybe living in an apt would be nice, unless your school has REALLY nice dorms. There are some schools with dorms with maid service now. having your parents around to babysit you when you’re sick or clean up after you is nice, but it will compromist your ability to grow up.

btw living in a dorm my first year was not my favorite experience, it was crowded and the room was tiny and I never had to share a room before but I wouldnt change it for anything. I think all it all it was really good for me that I did, and it made the rest of college a lot better.

I dormed for my first semester. I hated it. It wasn’t for me. The people there were all about drinking and partying 24/7. Wednesday morning I remember a guy a couple roomsnext to me, opened a beer. I just think I was a little better than that. I came home, go to a commuter school- a great school, and love it. I guess it is because I had parents who were not strict, so I had no need to rebel. Dorming is definitely not for everybody.

A dorm! If you don’t live in a dorm, you feel really cut off from the school and the social life. Dorm life is a huge part of the social scene.

A dorm, definatley. You’ll want to get out of home and experience life outside of the realm of your fam. Trust me, living in a dorm you’ll have the time of your life, there’s a reason they call these the golden years! Get out and enjoy them! You’ll meet tons of new people and you won’t regret it.
