You’re on the right track! A Bachelor’s degree is the first step and one in science is even better. You also will need Anatomy and Physiology, General Chemistry 1 & 2, Organic Chemistry, helps if you take Biochemistry. Psychology, Sociology, at least Statistics if not a higher math.

Schools also require patient contact care hours most requiring at least 1400 hours but preferring 3 years experience. Experience must be paid in most cases. RN’s, EMT’s, Paramedics, respiratory therapists, PT’s. All looked highly favorably on. Although as long as you have direct patient care it usually will count.

Experience is pretty much the main thing that will get you in although if you have extremely good acadmics they may overlook not having as many hours as someone else who isn’t as good academically. But try to get as much paid experience as possible!

Community service is also highly looked upon.

check out www.aapa.org for a listing of all the certified schools in the U.S. check out which ones you would be interested in and look at their prerequisites now while you still have lots of time to plan out what you need.

Hope this helps!
