Do you think its a good idea to take a year off after graduating from high school before enrolling in college?

I have no idea what i want to do and i’m honestly not interested in college right now but i don’t want to do this if it could possibly hurt me in the future. Please, any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.

Well, I did it, but I had a clear plan for myself. I wanted to work and gain a little extra money for college and also to get a little experience in the work force.

I would not suggest wasting your time and money and frustrating yourself in the process by going to college at this point. I would sit down with either your guidance councelor, if you’re still in school that is, or talk to an advisor at your local college or university.

Make a list of what you like and don’t like, what your strengths and weaknesses are, and maybe you’ll get a better idea of the path to take when you’re ready for college. Good luck!!!

I recommend going right away. I’m about 35+ and between my own experiences and people I’ve met/worked with over the years this is the best action. First off, many people go to college and end up switching majors/careers from their initial thoughts. Second, I’ve learned over the years that college is much more about growing as a person than learning specific things (ie. accounting, medicine). Third, and most importantly, college is really a ton of fun (much more than High school), lots of parties, activities, social orgs, etc. Fourth, when you do go, its much easier going with people your own age.

With all that said, if you’re really not ready, maybe wait 6 months and ensure you make good use of your time (travel, do an internship(to find your interests). Also, you should go visit some schools, take a tour and meet some people there (or better yet, see if you have a friend with a bro/sis that can show you there school and give you some input).

Either way, best of luck!

I personally think it would have been hard for me to take a year off and then be motivated enough to go back to school. Once your out of school, things come up and school may no longer be a top priority. You might keep putting it off and then before you know it, years have past.

But, on the other hand, if you are not interested in college right now, this may not be the right time. Unless you can put forth 100% effort while in school, don’t waste your money and time. College is hard and several kids drop out because they are not ready for the committment.

Good luck with your decision.

If you are not ready to go to college right now don’t go. It is very expensive and if you need a “gap” year there is nothing wrong with that. If you really are worried about it take a class or 2 at the local community college just to keep your brain working. I can’t see taking a year off hurting your future at all in fact it may help you in the future if you go when your ready you will do so much better. Good luck in the future your going to be fine

What are you planning on doing if not going to college? I don’t think it’s a bad idea, just you need to have another plan going. Sleeping all day and partying all night won’t get you much of anywhere. (But, that’s what some freshmen do before they drop out of school, too.)

Have you got a trade school (vocational school or whatever it’s called in your area) where you could study something that would get you a better job than minimum wage, unskilled? That could be a great use of your time and help when you’re ready to go to school.

The only way not going to college directly out of high school will hurt you is if you never go to college at all after your respite from school.

I wouldn’t encourage it. For some reason, so many people end up never going to college, when they take time off right after high school. I suggest going through your freshman year, then taking a semester or year off, if you still wish to.

Remember, you don’t have to declare your major right away. Just take classes that you know you’ll enjoy, and classes that will apply to anything you decide to major in (a couple of maths, Englishes or literatures, and sciences are all required in most colleges). Don’t stress about it! You could talk to someone at the college registrar’s office, your high school counsellor (if you have a good one), or a career counsellor, to possibly figure out what you’d like to do. 🙂

I would say you shouldn’t take a year off because you will get used to making money and not having school in your life and it will be very hard to go back. Take my bf for example, he decided that he wanted to take a semester off to take a break and its now been a full year and he hasn’t even mentioned going back. I think you should go right after high school, the sooner you go the sooner you’ll finish. Not saying that you wont return to school, I just think it makes things a little easier.

you will be able to desire to work out if the college you’re attracted to helps you to “defer enrollment” meaning you prepare now yet are actual going to attend next year. some faculties do no longer show you how to to try this, some do. additionally, residing in California is amazingly costly. have you ever mapped out your expenses ect? Are you going to be making sufficient at this meant financial corporation teller activity to help your self? foodstuff, lease, money handy, ability, electrical energy etc. have you ever worked in the previous? Held a activity? those are issues you will be able to desire to think of approximately. in case you do settle directly to stay on your guy or woman out in California, have you ever been there in the previous? Are you conscious of the area? Do you have any relatives residing in California or the west coast in any respect? you do no longer decide to sense on my own and lost. which will in basic terms make you opt to flow abode.

Take a year or two off! You don’t even have to go to college if you don’t want to. Don’t waste your money or time doing something just because everyone else is doing it.
