if, and only if, you decide to pursue an occupation that requires a college degree… aside from that, no.

something/ points to consider:

– only 25% of u.s. citizens have bacehelor degrees.*

– the more education, the more the income.**

– what matters most in life is for you to pursue your passions and to hell with conventional standards and expectations! college may just be the environment to find what that passion is.***

Best of Luck to You!

Oh, I love this question. Let me give you a little pep talk. I’m fired up on it. Back in the day, say the 50’s and 60’s, the answer would of been 50-50. Bear in mind this was pre-computer times. If a guy was mechanically inclined, he could be an auto tech, or a gal could be a beautician, and of made a living. Blue collar. Get by, and have stuff. NOWADAYS, it’s a whole new ball game. A college degree is a key, to the BEGINNING of success. It doesn’t matter if you majored in underwater basket weaving. That single piece of paper is society’s entrance to a more successful life. Two almost identical people interview, say at McDonalds. The high school grad, get’s hired. His position, would you like fries with that? The person with the college degree, private office, and manager. Way better position, greater pay. The college grad can believe pop corn is a little league coach. They totally overlook this. We assume he, or she is smart, because they have their work passport. Yup, that ever so important docment. The diploma, representing college. Passports get you in and out of the country. Diploma’s get you in and out of high paying career opportunities. Just remember 1 thing. Poor people get jobs. Middle class obtain work. College degrees receive career opportunities.

Well, it depends on what you want to do.

If you want to work in retail “Hi, can I help you?” all your life, no. I see plenty of 40-somethings still mopping floors in the back of restaurants. I have an aunt who is 50, and she works making pizzas. No shame in it, just recognize you will probably be stuck at a certain level for a long time.

OR, if you are really motivated, a self-starter, with big ideas, and no fear of anything, you can become a millionaire without a college degree. Read a lot, think up some business plans, pitch it to an investor, get some dosh, start up, and roll. (But really, your chances of success if you haven’t studied what other people have done before you, would be pretty low.)

But you can do it. Friends of mine have. But you better be on the go 100% of the time, or you are gonna end up mopping floors. (In fact, you will probably end up doing some of that no matter what, cuz life is hard work; ESPECIALLY for people who are trying to start a business.)

A college degree just (practically) guarantees that you can make a (somewhat) higher amount of money year after year, because you have trained for a particular job, and it is proof that you are (at least a bit) intelligent and determined, so companies are more likely to trust you with a more important job.

Good luck.

Depends on what you want to do in life. Doctor=degree; Wedding planner=not really… you get my drift. I want to become a college professor, so half a lifetime’s worth of schooling and all the possible degrees I could get (relevant to my job) is what I’m headed for…

It all depends on you.

No. There are other options beyond high school. But SOME SORT of postsecondary education (or military, or a great business idea) is needed if you want to make a decent living.

Hey, it’s quite a good plus! Companies doesn’t look to your skills and intelligence, but to your academic credentials. Pieces of paper are everything about job seeking.

when you compete for a job and all other things are equal – then the degree may be a tie breaker.

It kinda depends on what your talents and interests are. And if you’re not sure, then college can help you find out. I hope that helped!

i think that if you want to make decent money, you need one, otherwise, you’d either have to have aLot of experience in one particular field or just be extremely blessed.
