Do Residential Advisors really check your dorms? Do they search for certain items like microwaves n such?

My daughter was an RA for several years. Yes, they were required to check dorms sometimes. There will be rules at your dorm about how these checks are done.

This is something which is generally a college to college situation. However:
* Generally, RAs do not check for things like microwaves unless there becomes a problem (circuit breakers getting tripped).
* As a renter, you do have certain rights regarding privacy. Generally, unless they have reason to believe that policy is being violated or laws broken, they cannot enter your room without permission. This may vary based on laws in each state.
* Check the agreement that you signed when you signed up to live in the dorms…usually that gives the policies regarding it.

At my school, they do check the rooms, but they do not go through your things. Just to be safe, I would get rid of as many banned things as possible. If you want to keep something that is banned, put it somewhere or in something that does not look suspicious.

We had microwaves in our dorms anyway, but yeah RAs used to do random dorm checks at my college. They threw out all of my candles.

If you’re not doing anything wrong, you don’t have a problem. We’re not allowed to have toasters, so I just keep mine in my closet. My RA has a master key and will walk in as she pleases, however most RA’s are very forgiving as long as you’re not drinking or using illegal substances.

Yes they will. They can do it anytime they want. They like to do it when everyones gone home for vacation. They will bust you. You need to put those items where they are not visable.
