At any good school, there will be “general education” requirements, which include things like math, english, some science class(es), and other sorts of requirements. Of course a music major doesn’t have to take the same science classes as a science major, but yes, you’ll have to be a capable student beyone music.

Think of it this way… You’re asking to go to college to earn the right to be called (one day) a college graduate. That term carries with it a certain expectation of general education, things that will make you a well educated citizen of the country, able to make yourself aware of and informed about political issues, social issues, financial issues, and other things.

Musicians are only not immune to the need to understand these issues, they **benefit** tremendously from being informed! Think how many songs (classical, pop, rock, country, you name it…) have political overtones (excuse the pun), make social statements, and address serious issues like the effects of scientific advancement on society.

So if you need to, take an SAT prep course and prove to the world that you’re smart enough to one day be a college graduate and hang in there! As much as music can become your life… the best musicians look well beyond music. Good luck!!!

Some colleges, not all, have CERTIFICATE or DIPLOMA programs in which you just take the music courses. Berkelee and USC offer these types of programs as does Musicians Insitute

If you’re going for a full degree you do have to take the acadmeic courses including college math, science, poly sci, English 1

You will have to take the same general courses as everyone else. These are taken during your first 2 years. Your last two years are spent working on your area of concentration (major)

audition is better. But you will need to look into the major a little more. I am not sure what the requirements are where you are at.

It does rely on the college. you are able to go with to be a music significant, in basic terms such as you are able to go with to be the different significant. you do no longer could audtition for a significant, yet you do could audition for particular overall performance communities, placement into voice training (somewhat in the event that they’re in extreme call for), or for factors in operas or musicals, etc. For some majors, like a vocal overall performance significant, you would be required to be in a voice classification, and a powerful appearing team like a choir, and you may probably be expected to be in the shows and recitals placed on via the dept. So, it would be significant which you audition nicely. yet once you had to be a music training significant, then you definitely does no longer could take a number of those training, and your auditions does no longer count. i became a music ed significant, and that i became in a overall performance team that became open to all of us. they had to allow me into classes for the reason that i became a significant (I in basic terms auditioned so as that they could place me), and that i became in basic terms required to furnish a senior recital my final 365 days. you are able to truly be a music significant without auditioning for something. determine which you do do what you think of you are going to adore doing, whether or no longer you think of you come from the ideal preparation. college would be preparation adequate which you would be able to make a occupation out of music in case you go with. in case you go with particular concepts, touch the music branch on the universities you’re looking into. it truly is their job to recruit. they’re going to be happy to talk to you. good success!
