I personally prefer my students not to bring laptops, because they are IMing, checking email and playing games on them. Takes notes, then transcribe them to your desktop. You’ll find yourself learning more than way.

I agree unless you have classes or attend a university that requires a laptop just keep your desktop and take notes on paper.

You’ll learn a lot more and it’ll be easier to study from as well. It’s much easier to remember where about in a notebook you have a certain lecture then it is to scroll through 100’s of pages on your computer to find that one lecture that has the answer to the homework problem your stuck on.

That will depend on what your major is and also what each individual professor’s policy is on laptops in class. For example, lots of graphic design classes require you to bring a laptop to class to do your work. Some engineering classes also require certain software and a laptop computer to connect a calculator to in class. If you just want to take note, then I suggest the old fashioned way so that you won’t be tempted to instant message or play on facebook while you should be paying attention.

a laptop was the single biggest waste of money I put myself through in college. Completely useless. A 400.00 dell desktop would be perfect (plus the maintance on a laptop is way to high)

Depends on how well you can keep paper notes and whether you’ll be tempted by campus wi-fi. Also depends on whether you need to draw or write equations. For physics, chemistry, or math which involve equations, formulas, and non-alphabetical symbols, use paper. Otherwise if the professor doesn’t care, it’s up to what you think will be most effective for yourself. If you use a laptop though, hope it’s a small one that’s easy to lug around.

you don’t necessarily need a laptop in your classes unless you would feel more comfortable with one, but it’s always good to have a laptop in college in case you have to do research in the library, you’re working on a project with people, and just in general laptops tend to be very versitile and helpful 🙂

To class…or to your dorms? If you mean your dorms, which i assume you do a desktop is fine, but i would recommend a laptop so you will be able to take it to classes and around campus.
