Yes, it takes undergrad, med school, internship, residency, passing boards and getting licensed. probably over 10 years in all. Another option is to be a physician assistant. It is 4 years undergrad plus 2 years Master’s. You don’t “do” the surgery but will first assist. In some cases, you might get to do minor procedures yourself. They are also trained universally, so can switch specialties if they feel like it. It’s a good job as you get to do lots of stuff but work under a doctor so you always have someone to go to when unsure of something.

Of course. Nobody gets away from being an undergraduate! All graduate schools require a four year degree from an accredited university before even considering acceptance!Besides, why would you want to miss out on what could be the best four years of your life (think of all the socializing and good times you could be having!) before you are thrown in the hell of applying to med schools, taking the MCAT, and basically spending the following four years as an insomniac? The entire process may take 8+ years, but if being a surgeon is your true calling, then it’s worth every effort you make.

Yes, of course. And then a minimum of five years of residency, too; longer, if you want to specialize.

There are some programs that have a pre-med-direct-to-med school option where you can do the whole shebang (except the residency, of course) in seven or even six years; I think Boston University and Brown have them, but you’d have to check into that. There are also a very few med schools that will take you without a bachelor’s degree. However (at least in the US) there is no medical school that will take you without your having at least completed the undergraduate requirements for med school, and most of them will not take you without the undergraduate degree.

Hello

You do not need to have 4 years of college in order to go to medical school. You can just take the required classes in order to apply for medical school. You should check with your medical school for that, because some schools have different requirements. If you do have a B.A or B.S you do get more of a chance to get accepted into medical school, but you have to keep in mind your grades, volunteer work, and also the interview, and the MCAT results. Good Luck 🙂

Yes, you need an undergraduate degree (the 4 years) then a medical degree, then probably more specialized training on top of that. Plus internship and residency.

Yes, plus more training in surgery itself. The length of that training depends on the type of surgeon you want to be.
