Do I have a chance of getting in to USC or UCLA with a GPA like this?

Well my problem is my GPA. My 10th grade year was my first year in high school and i really messed up. but my freshman and sophmore years grades pulled me up but not as high as it should be. my overall GPA is a 3.39 but on the other hand my SAT score was a 1980 and i plan to take it again in October.

I took AP Language and Composition Last year and this year i’m taking: AP Literature and Composition, AP US Gov’t, AP European History and Zoology and I wonder if i did get accepted to USC, would i have a good chance of getting financial aid??

I’m also on a dance team in school and outside of school and play varsity softball

so would i have a chance at USC or UCLA, and would going to a DC Public School effect anything??

Washington D.C? That’s pretty far. I hope you know that UCLA can get pretty expensive for an out-of-stater.

A 3.39 GPA is decent. I don’t understand how you did bad in your first year, but your freshman and sophomore years pulled you up, considering that your first year is your freshman year. For UCLA, 9th grade doesn’t count, so you could take relief in that and you get to weigh it. For USC, I have no idea as I have never applied there.

Either way, apply. It doesn’t hurt. GPA and SAT isn’t everything, so concentrate on presenting yourself the best you can and hope for the best

Your SAT score is really nice, right about par with some of my friends that got accepted into UCLA there. however, their GPAs were in 4.0+ range. about financial aid, i know there are a lot of student aid, just talk to your counselor for info.

what a friend of mine that is related to college admissions office once told me was that

“grades only get you considered, the personal statement is what seals the deal.”

so make sure to write a bomb essay.

good luck
