How long does it take to become a dental Hygiene? How much school or credits are required? Does anyone know of a good school in Louisiana also?

why do you want to become that? Have high goals for your self. I get so mad when I see our youth going for short cuts. You guys only thing short term. Do you even know for the rest of your life you will be making minimum amount of money on this career. You won’t be able to afford a house or a decent apartment.

You will work long hours and for less money. You sound young. Go make something fo your self. Look at students form India and China. They come here and go straight to Universities and high paid careers. Why would you do that to your self? Go become a doctor…engineer…… Registered nurse….do something high. Why settle for low paying jobs?

This is an outstanding career choice! I am a dental hygienist, and I attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Try typing in dental hygiene programs in Lousianna in the search engine on yahoo to find accreddited programs. There is such a need for this career, and it is proven in the statistics that this is one of the most high paying jobs for the short period of time you are in school, two years. Don’t fret over finding a school that only offers a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. Most dentists, if not all, are in such a need for a hygienist that they will hire you with an associate’s degree in the field! Different schools have different prerequisite classes, but you could always contact the program advisor after you find a school in your area and get a information packet. Start early! It not only looks good for acceptance, but the application process is rigorous. Usually three letters of reccommendation are required as well as an essay and personal interview. The main science courses I would reccommend taking to prepare, and in order to be accepted, are Microbiology, Chemistry 111 ( varies from school to school), Anatomy ( 4-5 credit hour), and Physiology (4-5 credit hour). Again, the specific school you are applying to will want specific levels of each of these courses, and the prerequisite courses are going to vary. Good luck! 🙂

My sister is currently going to school to become a Dental Hygienist. At a minimum, an Associates Degree is required in Dental Hygiene which can be completed in two years.

“How long does it take to become a dental Hygiene? – I don’t know but it looks like you got a lot more schooling left before you even think about becoming a “Dental Hygienist”
