anesthesiologists make a lot of money, but its a high risk (a small mistake could land you in a big lawsuit) long hours job. Surgeries can take a long time and as long as there are sleeping gas in use, the anesthesiologist needs to be there. While on the job, anesthesiologists need to be attentative and focused. They really need to put in the effort. In the beginning years of the career, an anethesiologist probably wont spend a lot of time at home because he or she is new and doesnt have much senority over others. As years go by, the anethesiologist will have more time to spend at home with the family, but its still less than a person that works 9am-5pm in an office (like a computer engineer or something)

If the person is willing to wait and really wants to do this job, then he or she will think that its worth spending all that time in school. This job usually requires more sacrifice than other jobs, so weigh your options and think about how this career might affect everything else.
