The University of Virginia is a fine school, and there are many other excellent schools in the South, from Georgetown, George Washington and American University in D.C, to Duke, Emory, Vanderbilt, Davidson, UNC, NC State, UGA, etc. but if you are majoring in Education there is no point in attending an elite school – as a teacher you will have a tough time paying back the high student loans you will accumulate, and many elite schools arent really set up to train teachers.

You would really be a lot better off attending the good state university in your own state where you can take all the courses needed to get a teacher certification. Or, if you plan to have your teaching career in another state, you should attend the state university in that state. You could save a lot of money by going to that state, working for a year (maybe as a teacher’s aide?) to establish residency so you could get in-state tuition.

Good luck.

If you are smart enough, Duke University is EXCELLENT, for every major.
