UCI has a major in Infomatics that prepares you to be a game designer among other things. They have a whole school of Computer Science and Infomatics is just one major.

UCI has a nice community. Irvine itself is a ridiculously expensive community, so many students choose to live on campus, creating a real sense of community. The freshman dorms are all named after characters and places in Lord of the Rings — that gives you an idea of what kind of students go there!

By far the most popular major is Biology — something like 1/3 of the students major in Bio and a good many students are premeds.

Because UCI doesn’t have Division I sports teams, they often get overlooked in the school search by people outside of SoCal. But it’s in a nice area itself and only about an hour from LA and an hour from San Diego. The OC beaches are just 20 minutes away.

Good luck.

Caltech or Harvey Mudd if you are an excellent student. Both are elite schools in Southern California. Not right in LA, but not too far a drive, especially from Caltech.

California Lutheran in Thousand Oaks has some REALLY neat programs. I would also suggest you look at Chapman in Orange (a neat film program – would tie in well with your interests).

Good luck!
