If you have the opportunity go! Don’t take time off. Your chances of being admitted to college usually don’t improve with time.

Plus, now is a good time to get your SATs in order as well as the work of choosing the right college.

It is generally considered best, to which I agree being in college myself, to attend college the year of your graduation (starting right after high school) or waiting a semester (which I’ll talk about later). There are a few reasons for this and probably the most important, I believe, is the preparation that one receives in high school that is so quickly applied in college. Many required college introductory classes, especially science ones, assume that you’ve been through high school and thus have the preparation required to do well in the course; however, if you take two years off, it may be very easy to forget some things that may help you succeed. Another slightly less important reason is the “norm” for most colleges is to have students attend after high school, so almost all students within the same grade are of the same age. Starting college being two years older than most others might have an effect on your college experience (or it might not, depending on how you feel).

One option that I’ve heard a lot about recently is the option to take a semester off and then start school. I think this applies to many high school graduates who have “burned out” and do not feel they could do another four years without a break; another reason is many feel they need the time to “find themselves” and explore the world as to find what they really want to study or accomplish once they’re in college.

Since I have already chosen my route (and have not regretted it), I cannot comment on what it is like to go the other way, but from what I know, I would suggest to go to college right after high school.

On a slightly off-topic comment, I know of graduate schools some actually prefer matriculating students to have experience in the world, as it were, before entering to have real-world experience, but I’m sure that’s not what you’re wondering about.

It’s better to go to college right after high school. You won’t have forgotten a lot of the skills you knew in high school if you go right after high school. If you wait, you might get stuck in remedial classes early in college. Plus, if you don’t go to college right away, you may risk never going to college (as it is hard to make oneself go to college after taking a lot of time off).

On the other hand, if you are totally burned out, you might take a year off, but you will have to make your year off worth something. So you’ll need to get an interesting job. Colleges will be wondering why you took the year off if you don’t do something that is good.

Go right after. This way, you will be the same age as your peers, which may help you have a more positive experience and make friends more easily. Also, you may not want to go back after you’ve been out in the “real world”. Going right after high school ensures that you go, and by the time you’re done with school you’ll be old enough and have enough education to get a job with which you can truly support yourself, which you may not be able to get with a high school education only.

ITs best to go right after HS because if you don’t and get into the “real world” you will not want to go back. Take it from me my husband have 10 years of being out of high school is just going back and is having a really hard time doing so. one because you forget a lot of the things you learned in school that you need in college and two because your life gets really busy with careers and possibly a family with kids.

go right after. you will enjoy the no homework and when school starts back up after a year break, you’re NOT going to want to go , and you’ll probably have forgotten a lot of what you learned. Also, people who go to college right out of highschool tend to get better loans, and or scholarships.

It’s sometimes harder to go if you don’t go right away. Also, there are a lot of grants/scholarship funds that only apply for students right out of high school.
