College or University?

Right now I’m in my sophomore year and I am thinking about college. My overall G.P.A so far would be 4.58 out of 4.0 since I’m taking honors courses. I really want to go to the university of chicago, but I’m not sure if I’ll make it. I could at least get a 26 or above on the ACT, is this enough? Also, I am 100% Mexican, would I be considered a minority and is this an advantage. (Sorry for misspellings)

Well, your GPA is not out of 4.0, or that would be the max. That’s just a line the school throws at you to make you jump through their honors hoops.

I can’t see why you’ll have difficulty getting in the University of Chicago. They do look beyond GPA and test scores for well rounded people or those who will round out the student population (that’s where being Mexican could help).

So, do some extracurricular activities (not necessarily associated with your school) and you’ll be fine.

I do suggest reading The Teenage Liberation Handbook by Grace Llewelyn. It could be very helpful to someone with your skills.

Best of luck to you 🙂

If you are a Mexican-American, you are considered an underrepresented minority, and that’s a huge advantage at a lot of schools. If you’re from Mexico, then you’re an international student, which isn’t a big advantage. Your GPA is not as important as your rank in class, but both of yours are probably good. It’s hard to evaluate your case without the test scores and without knowing what your extracurricular activities are, but if you keep working hard and doing well, you should have a good chance.

Yes. you have a high chance of getting into u of chicago.

just make sure you keep your grades high and continue with extracurricular activities. Universities now are looking for well rounded students that can handle their grades and their social life as well. Being a minority does help a bit. There are plenty of scholarships around just for minorities. so remember to look out for them when you do make it into college.
