Hard to say. If you know what you want to do in a career, then I would actually start with a job search online for that career and see what skills are required in order to obtain a job like that. Look at several and see which computer programs/research/etc. is repeated in similar jobs. I would then match up the college program that will get you there. If you just do not know what to do in life…that is totally different. I would suggest starting at a community college taking the basic courses needed and continue to look into different career paths before your time is up. Do not ignore community college programs either. I went to a 4 year college because I thought that was the only way to go and that 2 year degrees were not really respected. I was wrong. If I had it to do all over again I would do the 2-3 year dental hygiene program at a CC. I would be making double what I make now and working 4 days a week, paying a lot less back in student loans. There are tons of personality assessments you can take about majors and career decisons. Talk to someone in the Career Resource Center at your University for more information. Also, high school guidance counselors might have the same type of information.
