When you choose a major you really need to pick based on what you like to do. Don’t become a lawyer just b/c it pays well but you hate law! Pick something you like! If money is an issue for you, then you def. do want to take that into consideration, but it shouldn’t be your main concern. Remember this is something you want to do for the rest of your life!! Do something you enjoy! What are you good at?!? What can you see yourself doing for the next 30 years? Do you want to work w/ people or animals? Do you like to help people or work an office job! There are so many questions to consider. Talk to people who are in professions you think are interesting and see what they have to say about their jobs. Good luck!

maybe you could help us out by telling us your interests?

What are you good at?

What are you passionate about?

What could you see yourself doing and enjoying for a large part of your life?

What is something you could do that would keep you motivated to continue studying it?

I’m a college junior majoring in clinical laboratory science. I chose my major because I weighed the possibilities of other science/healthcare majors and came to the conclusion that I am an introvert. I don’t like to be around lots of people. So..nursing was out. Doctor was out. I like to solve puzzles and “play detective” and use logic and rationalize things. I like to use my hands. I like to feel like my job isn’t going to be the same routine, mundane thing everyday. I am good with logic and statistics. I’m a good researcher. I took all those things combined and came to the decision to make clinical laboratory science my major. I’m still involved in healthcare, I’m still playing a crucial role in the treatment (mostly diagnosis) of disease, I still help people but I don’t have to deal with them directly. I get to use my critical thinking and analyzing skills. And doing different tests everyday and seeing different results keeps my job from being boring. Plus there’s much maneuverability for a CLS major to work in various lab settings.

This is how I chose my major. Hope you can use it to apply to your own situation.
