Can you graduate with honors when getting a masters degree?

Unfortunately, the “graduating with honors” thing is pretty much just specific to undergrad degrees. I think it’s basically to reward college students for getting high GPA’s throughout the 4ish years they are in school. It’s tough in college to “make the grade” because of all the distractions that come with being newly independent. Lot’s of times studies go on the back burner in favor of parties, greek life, etc. One REALLY has to work hard to graduate with honors in undergrad.
At the graduate level, most colleges & universities REQUIRE that you maintain at least a “B” average. The assumption is that if you’ve made it this far, you’re a smart cookie & you really don’t need any incentives to do well besides, you know, paving the way for your own future :).
However, if you have exams near the end of your Masters program, you can often “pass with distinction” (not every program offers this designation, but most do). Your thesis could also receive some sort of departmental award, if one’s available. This is the best equivalent to graduating with honors.
That being said, some Masters programs do have honors designations… but not many.

Or can you only graduate with honors when getting a bachelors degree?
Two types of graduation honors are awarded at City University of Seattle. Master degree candidates are eligible to earn President’s honors. Bachelor’s degree candidates are eligible to earn Latin honors. Honors are not awarded for Associate degrees or certificates of any kind.
For those graduating with a master’s degree:
President’s honors are awarded if the student has graduated with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.90 or higher (with no rounding up).
President’s honors are noted on the student’s final transcript under the graduation date and are also noted on the student’s diploma, with an “honors” label.

All you need to get your Masters later on would be to get your Bachelors degree. It doesn’t have to be Honors. However, if you are hoping to get accepted into a prestigious graduate school, Honors would probably help you out in getting accepted.
