Can I get into a good undergrad college?

I’m an Indian student (currently in 11th standard). I want to go to the US for my undergraduate studies (course: Engineering/Computer Science).

I got 770 in the SAT Critical Reading, and 790 in SAT Reasoning Maths. I speak English at home, and I’m quite proficient (My TOEFL marks are higher than the MIT minimum).

I am yet to take my SAT2, so I’m not sure how I’ll fare in them.

My GPA is 3.8.

The subjects I have chosen are Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Computer Science. In a class of 500, I’m in the top 5%.

I have excellent recommendations from my professors, so I’m not particularly worried about that.

Exracurricular: I am co-leader of the Programming Team in my school’s computer club, and a member of the Computer Security Team. I’m also a member of the English Editorial Board.

Social Work- I was a volunteer in a hospital for the under privileged (worked there for 120+ hours).

I had a summer job for 2 months working for a multinational company.

So what do you think?

i think you have a GREAT chance. your scores are really good, your gpa is good, you have extracurriculars, and you are not from the US–US colleges and universities are always trying to get foreign students to come.

schools other than the ivies are getting very popular…a lot of people say they offer a better education than the ivies (i agree with this…)

so, (a very short list of) really great non-ivies include:

smaller colleges: amherst college, boston college, williams college, mount holyoke college (all women)

universities (bigger): university of chicago, northwestern university, stanford

andif you’re into science…definitely try johns hopkins university

WOW. If colleges don’t allow you in, I’d be surprised. Your score are phenomenal! But I am not an admissions counselor.

I would look into getting a student visa, and contact the admissions counselor for international students at the university of your choice!

I wish you the best!

Pretty good, you’re better than 80% of the applicants in the US who apply to Ivy League schools and their equivalencies.

The only way to find out is to apply to several universities and see if you get in. I think you already know the answer though. = /
