A nutritionist. One of the best colleges to look into for that field of study is The University of Missouri at Columbia. I knew someone that, like you, wanted to study obesity and health issues. He went to UMizzou (as they call it) and he now works for the FDA. Talk about a primo job! The great thing about being a nutritionist is that you can stradle the fence on which side you want to work in, the biological (scientific) side or the sociological (psychological) side. Definitely check out The University of Missouri at Columbia, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with their curriculum. Also, Florida A&M University in Tallahassee has a good program. As someone who has a graduate degree in health, I can tell you that it is underrated and yet is so important to the field of health and medicine. It in essence is a very versatile and solid degree to possess. Good luck!

You are looking at a human sciences degree.

You could do obesity study with any of the following :

Medicine

Psychology

Dietetics

I would ideally choose medicine and then specialise in eating disorders. You could study psychology after the basic degree and help people with eating disorder, obesity etc. You would be in a good position then as an expert to write papers on the subject and become a world expert on the subject.

Look into sociology. It’s basically the study of large social trends and how they affect society. There’s lots of research through interviews, surveys, etc., which all gets compiled into charts, graphs, and reports.

Sociology is basically the science of adding up all the effects that individuals have on their society.

In your later years, you could do a project that focuses on obesity, and see where it takes you from there.

It depends which you really want to focus on: obesity or how things impact our society. If you want to focus on obesity you could study nutrition. If you want to focus on how things impact our society you could study sociology. I also know someone who was interested in this topic and was an education major, she did research on how obesity in children impacted education and our society.

You probably want a bachelor’s degree in biology with some sociology, and then a master’s or PhD from a school of public health.
