First go to your local communtiy college and set up an appointment with an academic advisor. He/she will give you a list of the courses you may need to get into the nursing program at the community college. The classes/pre reqs can be alot depeding how much math, science and psychology classes you need. It depends which way you want to go to become a Registered Nurse. The first way to to take the pre reqs then go into the LPN Nursing program-Licenised Pratical Nurse. After you take the courses to become a licenised pratical nurse then you can take the exam to become a regitered nurse. The second way of doing it is to take the Pre reqs/classes then get into the BSN-Bachelors of Science Nursing program. Then after you finish the BSN program you can take the exam to become a Registered Nurse. Many employers look for nurses that have a Bachelors in Science Nursing degree. It makes for high marks on your resume. The Bachelors of Science Nursing degree is alot longer than the LPN program. The BSN program typically runs for 4 years and the LPN program runs for about a 1 1/2 years. Better to go with the BSN program. Please visit your local community college and talk to an acaemic advisor and bring your highschool transcripts with you. Good Luck.
