Any former accountants who changed careers?
1. How was the real world of accounting different than what you learned in textbook and classroom in college?
2. What made u leave the field of accounting and change your career?
3. How do you determine whether you will succeed in accounting or not? Is it mostly based on how well you do in accounting program in college? Is there any other way to anticipate your performance?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

If you enjoy computers, you can be a consulting accountant to help install major computer systems. Try converting thousands….to millions of customers over a weekend to a new accounting system…..with no change in the quality of service to the customer.
If you enjoy working with people you can sign on with a public accounting firm and work with various clients throughout the year. Always a different mix of customers.
If you are analytical, you can do research and due dilligence for mergers and acquisitions…..or forensic investigations of white collar crime.
Throughout your accounting career you can switch your path for varying degrees of challenges and opportunities..
I’ve never left accounting….but I’ve hopped around from large corporations to small ones….major to minor players.
If you enjoy challenges and digging into details, accounting will be a good fit for you. If you enjoy puzzles where there is only one good answer……accounting is the place to be. If you work well under deadlines and enjoy publishing a finished product every month….then stick with accounting!
