anatomy vs. biology courses for med school?

Biology (8 Credits) is a prerequisite for medical school, I have taken Anatomy and Physiology (8 credits) and was wondering if A&P are acceptable credits towards the Biology requirement. Thank you,

Anatomy and Physiology are great, but I am afraid you still need to take Biology. When it says “prerequisite” for medical school, that is like saying no substitutions.

No, Anatomy and Physiology credits are not acceptable toward the Biology requirement. The requirements are seperate – you need to take both Bio and A&P.

I would go into Biology or Chemistry or both they would both be very beneficial in the pursuit of a medical career. I have a few friends who are aspiring to be Medical Doctors someday and most of them took lots of science and math courses majoring in Biology and/or chemistry. Med. School boards are not dumb. They realize that these majors are harder than others (ie. Psych) and because of this they don’t base acceptance solely on GPA. Most importantly a Biology (as well as a Chemistry) major will help prep for your MCAT’s. So if I were you I would go into Biology as I believe that it would be the most beneficial degree. As for “well-rounded”ness you have plenty of opportunities to take classes that interest you in other fields. Also, I suggest getting into lots of clubs and extracurricular activities as these things will look very good on an application. Study hard and don’t forget to enjoy the experience along the way.

They’re right–you have to take the Bio classes. A medical school can’t waive the requirements–those are established by the accrediting authority.
