Is a degree in Chiropractic worth it?

I have been paying my way through school, and have a BS in Electronics Engineering Technology with about $14,000 in debt. However, now that I am employed in this field, I am not satisfied with the position and am interested in going back to school.

It would make sense for me to persue a degree in engineering, but my heart just isn’t there. I have always dreamed about a degree in chiropractic, but it was just to expensive for me to persue this degree out of high school. I am now married and my wife is soon to be a nurse, and we could potentially afford for me to leave my current position and return to school for chiropractic.

The thing is, it’s going to be approximately $80,000 for the entire program. So after I’m finished, we’ll be more than 100k in debt. Will I then need to invest more money into a facility to work out of, staff, etc?

We’re willing to relocate. I’m only 22 so I don’t want to feel I can’t still make a change, but is such a dramatic career change wirth it?

~Look kid you only live once~ I’m a chiropractor~ Ask yourself these questions (be truly honest with yourself) 1, Are you a outgoing person? 2, Would i like to run my own business? 3, Are you a good public speaker? 4, Would I be a good sales person?

If you answered yes to all the questions then this maybe the field for you. If you answered no way then this isn’t the field for you. Let me say this you would not believe the number of students who go to chiropractic school and have never been seen by chiropractor or know what chiropractors really do. All they know is that they saw on salaries.com that chiropractors make about $100k a year or more and thought they go that route. If you are interested in becoming a Chiropractor and don’t know anything about it. I would call a local Doctor of Chiropractic and ask if you can shadow him because you are thinking about going to chiropractic school. ( i have kids calling me all the time and i am happy to do it). What most students fail to realize about being a chiropractor that you are only going to make the big bucks if you Own your Own business and if that’s something you don’t want to do than this isn’t the field for you. Look kid what i am trying to say is ~YOU will have no problem paying back the loans~ if you answered yes to questions i asked you. if you have any questions contact me carrieazgirl at yahoo dot com

Being a chiropractor is deffinately a good career and helps a lot of people. I have been going to a chiropractor for going on 5 years now ( i had really bad scoliosis) and now my back is 95% fixed, but I know if it had not been for the nice and encouraging doctors that I had it would’ve been a miserable experience. So I guess I would say if this is your dream then go for it, yes it is expensive, but chiropractors do make a decent living and honestly i don’t think you would be paying on student loans forever. But if you’re really concerned maybe you could find a near by chiropractor to talk to, I’m sure they would be happy to answer your questions.

Don’t do it~believe me~ i would go to dental or pharmacy school. I’m a chiropractor so i know what I’m talking about. For every one successful chiropractor i will show you 100 who are not, of my class of 50 less than 4 years ago only 11 are practicing the rest quit and did something else and they have no idea how they will pay back the 100k. Anyways i just wish someone told me before i made the worst mistake of my life.

You;re still young, so I recommend that you do look at other career options. What makes you interested in becoming a chiropractor? Here in CA, most chiropractors are not doing so well financially due to competition and the lack of use of these chiropractitioners.

I recommend that you look into pharmacy.

Advantages:

1) Less time to finish

2) Most jobs are 9-5

3) You’ll have time for family

4) Starting salary is 75k-150k depending on location

5) You are in a white lab coat and MOST people respect you.

6) Great profession and it is growing!
