Am I wasting my time upgrading my High School marks in preperation for a Science related Uni. degree?

I am currently enrolled in a few programs aimed at increasing my marks from several High School courses. These courses, along with original mark, are as follows:

Math: 73

Physics: Never taken

Bio: 80

Chem: 80

I am interested in a science related degree; leaning more towards Medicine. I’ve looked at several Uni’s throughout Canada and found a few don’t list Math and/or Physics as a requirement for the pre-MD program.

I am just wondering if I’m wasting my time upgrading/getting these course when I wont be needing them at all in Uni. Can anyone out there let me know if it’s a good idea to be obtaining /upgrading these courses in prep. for Uni? Not sure where I’ll be going to Uni. but I’m sure its generalised. AGain, please clarify. I’m located in Alberta, Canada, from which I have my High School diploma. Thanks,

No matter what it takes to get into an undergraduate program, you’re going to need a GOOD foundation in math, physics, biology, and chemistry to finish an undergraduate degree and go on to med school. Even if you do get into a program with minimal science background, you’re going to have a really hard time in the university-level classes.

If you’re really bent on a science degree, then boosting your familiarity with the material is a very good thing. If not, though, maybe you could go try some other types of classes and see if you like English, music, psychology, or some other non-hard-science discipline?

You’re going to need a solid foundation in those classes. Besides, even though pre-med program may not require them, real medical schools probably do. Also, Canadian medical schools are harder to get into than American ones. I have a friend who graduated from UBC and applied to med schools on both sides of the border. Guess what, she didn’t get into the Canadian ones, bt some American ones. And now she’s a doctor. Plus, if you were to major in science, then you’ll need to retake those basic classes because Canadian high schools usually don’t offer APs or IBs.
