Admissions Interview?

I’m thinking about scheduling an interview with a college admmissions rep. it’s not required, it’s supplemental info but i can’t see how it can hurt my chances of getting into that university. Have any of you guys been through an interview like that? what do they generally ask? Or what could they ask besides why you wanna attend the school, failures etc???

Always do the optional application suppliments, at my college an interview was optional yet the admissions staff when asked about the interview said you were highly looked down upon if you did not have an interview.

They will ask you about your grades, classes you have taken, your intrests (both in terms of a career/major and your extracurricular intrests).

They will ask you about extracurriculars and work.

Be ready to answer the classic question about why you want to go to the particular school.

Be ready for a very open ended question like tell me about yourself.

If you have grade discrepencies be ready to explain that.

Make sure you dress up and have prepared answers for any question you think they might ask.

Besides the good advice you have already received, be prepared to ask questions after they’re done asking you.

Questions you can ask include: In the area you expect to major in, how many of the faculty are fully tenured? Does the department have a “star” in its academic field? Does the star actively teach, or is s/he retired/emeritus, or devoted to research? Do freshmen take classes from full professors, or mostly assistant or associate professors? In that department, how large is the average class? Does each student get individual attention without having to seek it? Ask why you should select this school over its biggest rival. (Interesting answers!) Ask about facilities you’d use, from dining halls to lounges to science or language labs to the library to music practice rooms. Make them sell the college to you.
