Etymology of orange.

The colour is named after the orange fruit, introduced to Europe via the Indo-European word nāranja.

Before this was introduced to the English-speaking world, the colour was referred to (in Old English) as geoluhread, which translates into Modern English as yellow-red.

The first recorded use of orange as a colour name in English was in 1512.

Orange derives from Sanskrit nāraṅgaḥ “orange tree”, with borrowings through Persian nārang, Arabic nāranj, Spanish naranja, Late Latin arangia, Italian arancia or arancio, and Old French orenge, in chronological order.

The first appearance in English dates from the 14th century.

The name of the colour is derived from the fruit, first appearing in this sense in the 16th century.

this question reminds me of one of those commericals about having free minutes on your wireless phone and not having to worry about what you say. However, this is a good question.
