Lucky for you I’m on ellisisland.org right now. There are people on there with the first name Harley in the year 1900 and the person is 34, so they were using that name from at least 1876. It doesn’t sound like a new first name.

The name Harley has been used in my family for many years, it is an old English name. My father in-law’s first name is Harley and he was born in 1936. My husband holds the middle name of Harley. It has been passed down for generations.

The name Harley is of Old English origin. Its meaning is ‘hare meadow’ or possibly ‘the long field.’ This ‘Harley’ may be the answer you are looking for but if its origin is from OLD English, the name has to be OLD as well. I rest my case.
