8a-4(-5a-2)=12a

Do the multiplication first

8a+20a+8=12a

Transpose term with variable to the left and with no variable to the right,Add, combine like terms.

28a-12a = -8

16a = -8

Divide left and right terms by 16, you get:

a = -8/16

Reduuce to lowest term

a = -1/2

8a +20a+8=12a distribute the -4 to the # in the parentheses

28a+8=12a Add like terms

-28a+28a+8=12a-28a Subtract 28a from both sides

8=-16a

8/-16=-16a/16 Divide by -16 to get a by itself

-1/2=a
